"Introduction to Environmental Science and Sustainability"
Department of Sustainability, Oregon State University | Jan-Jun 2019, Mar-Jun 2020
For Winter and Spring term 2019, I taught two three-hour labs with approximately 25 students in each lab. I attended weekly TA meetings, graded approximately 50 student's assignments each week for their weekly assignment. Topics taught included: information literacy, environmental impact, acid rain, and energy consumption. Information literacy was a priority topic for me to teach the students because as a science communicator striving for effective and accurate message delivery, identifying credible sources is crucial in this day and age where false information can easily be created and shared. For Spring term 2020 I was an online grader for the Ecampus version of Introduction to Environmental Science and Sustainability. I graded approximately 75 student labs each week in addition to attending weekly meetings with the professors and other TAs.
"Critical Thinking and Communication in the Life Sciences"
Department of Integrative Biology, Oregon State University | Sept-Dec 2018
I co-facilitated Critical Thinking and Communication in the Life Sciences, an upper division writing intensive course for undergraduate students. In addition to assisting grading assignments, I communicated with the professor to create class lesson plans for this writing intensive course and led selected class topics and discussions. This was an important class for me to teach because I am passionate about science communication.
Salmon Bowl Regional Coordinator
National Ocean Science Bowl, Consortium for Ocean Leadership | Sept 2016 - Mar 2017
National Ocean Science Bowl (NOSB) is an organization founded in 1998 that hosts 25 regional high school marine quiz competitions with an estimated total of over 200 participating schools and over 1,800 competing students. As co-coordinator, I recruited and managed over 100 volunteers that assisted with Salmon Bowl, Oregon and Idaho's regional bowl hosted by Oregon State University's College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. I solicited donations from local businesses for volunteer raffle prizes and promoted Salmon Bowl using social media as well as edited publicity documents.

Outreach Education
Oregon State University Valley Library
Corvallis, OR | Sept 2019 - Mar 2020
As a Library Instructor through Oregon State University's (OSU) Valley Library Teaching and Engagement Department, I was a liaison for OSU's College of Engineering and assisted the OSU community in navigating the library's resources. I hosted library workshops for courses and corresponded with university affiliates for individual consultations. Additionally, I updated the department's website and research guides, brainstormed library marketing strategies, as well as created a new Instructor Support web page using Drupal containing services the library offers.
Aquarium of the Pacific
Long Beach, CA | Jun 2014- Jun 2016
As an seasonal Education Volunteer, I taught guests of all ages about the animals in the aquarium and their lives in natural habitats. I volunteered in three or six hour shifts and rotated every half hour between different interactive exhibits which included the Shark Lagoon, Ray Touch Pool, Northern Pacific Gallery, Southern California Steelhead Gallery, and Moon Jelly Touch Pool. I also strongly encouraged guests to ask questions to expand their knowledge and curiosity.
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium
San Pedro, CA | Aug 2007 -Jun 2016
Formerly called "Sea Rangers", I taught the community of all ages about local marine life, such as the California Grunion, a fish that spawns on the beaches during full or new moons. I assisted in public education events including Grunion runs, tide pool walks, pier education, and salt marsh tours. As an Animal Husbandry Intern the summer of 2014, I was responsible for the animals located in the Aquatic Nursery by making sure their living environments were clean. Cleaning tasks included washing the water tables and wiping down the protective display barriers. Additionally, I prepared and fed the appropriate meals for the White Abalone, sea jellies, and octopus.

Curriculum
"An Intro to Mendeley" (2020)
Mendeley is a citation management tool that Oregon State University affiliates have access to. This workshop had not been taught in a few years so my colleague and I updated the existing documents and presented a workshop that went over the basics of Mendeley. The basics included how to download and use Mendeley in the web browser connector and word processing document.
"Organizing your research with online tools" (2019)
I led a library workshop that guided students through different resources available to them. Using Box for Oregon State and Google suite and citation managers, I showed students methods to keep organized. Originally a combination of two workshops that had not been taught for a while, I updated the workshops in a way that would cover citation management and online storage.
Teaching materials for "Introduction to Environmental Sustainability" (2019)
Given preset topics to teach, I tailored the weekly lab topics to relate to each other. The weekly lab topics are listed below:
"What's the solution to ocean pollution?" (2017)
As a result of a class assignment, I created a lesson plan for an activity that was designed for an informal learning setting. The criteria for this assignment were

Given preset topics to teach, I tailored the weekly lab topics to relate to each other. The weekly lab topics are listed below:
- information literacy - using the lens of mountain top mining, students learned how to critique information sources.
- farming fuel - as students played a farming fuel game, they learned the time, energy, and effort that goes into agriculture.
- acid rain - students learned to create and test hypotheses using publicly accessible data.
- energy - students learned about computer modeling and energy consumption under different scenarios.
- carbon footprint - students used an online carbon footprint calculator to help them decide if they want to make changes to their lifestyles.
"What's the solution to ocean pollution?" (2017)
As a result of a class assignment, I created a lesson plan for an activity that was designed for an informal learning setting. The criteria for this assignment were
- picking an ocean-related topic,
- coming up with a lesson plan for an informal space, and
- teaching the lesson plan for the informal space of choice.

This was the set up for "What's the solution to ocean pollution" at the Corvallis Saturday Market. The painting activity was on the left while the matching game was on the right. The camera seen on the right side of the picture was solely for my assignment purposes and was not used without a visitor's consent.
