Science Talk 2020 | Online
Presenter "Analyzing National Geographic Through Narrative"
- Due to COVID19, Science Talk was held virtually and I presented my graduate research on narrative science communication. It was neat to be a part of a virtual conference as people pioneer virtual gatherings.
Science Talk 2019 | Portland, Oregon
Volunteer and presented "repurposed_no. 1" & "repurposed_lightspeed"
- Science Talk is a science communication-driven two-day conference. Topics (either panels or workshops) discussed include, but are not limited to, ways to improve science communication and appropriately using social media as a communication venue.
- During the majority of the event I was a volunteer and helped attendees find their way around the conference venue as well as attending the conference events. When I presented my work, I had my two collaborative art pieces and an activity for conference attendees to play. The activity is the same seen in the "Teaching" page.
State of the Coast 2018 | Florence, Oregon
Attendee
- I attended State of the Coast a third time as an attendee seizing a networking opportunity and a chance to expand my professional growth.
International Association for Media and Communication Research 2018 | Eugene, Oregon
Volunteer
- International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) holds their conference once a year at different locations around the world. 2018 was the first time IAMCR held their international conferences in the United States. Quite to my advantage, this international conference was held in Eugene, Oregon.
- As a volunteer, I assisted participants navigate the conference location at University of Oregon. Additionally, I networked with presenters and made connections with people at University of Oregon.
State of the Coast 2017 | Florence, Oregon
Presented "repurposed_no. 1"
- I attended State of the Coast a second year as an artist presenter sharing a collaborative art piece resulting from a class assignment. See "Teaching" for more details about the project.
State of the Coast 2016 | Gleneden Beach, Oregon
Presented "The Importance and Impact of Ocean Science Bowls on Society"
- State of the Coast is an annual, day-long conference that takes place at different Oregon Coast locations. Topics discussed at the conference range from integrating art with science to policies and fisheries.
- I presented my research at the time which revolved around ocean science bowls and how they are important to not just the students that compete in them but also the families, coaches/teachers, and the like who are involved with the process.
